SITHI NAKHA

Sithi Nakha, a festival observed on the sixth day of lunar calendar (some time in May), is considered the birth day of Kumar, son of Mahadev. People of various parts of the kingdom prepare some kinds of special food stuffs and make an offering to God Kumar. They themselves also enjoy with these dishes. The next day Kumar is taken to a procession accompanied by people playing musical instruments, to the streets of Kathmandu, the starting point being Hanuman Dhoka, the Old Palace. Kumar the God of War has a peacock as his conveyance and thus found seated on a peacock while taken in this procession. This day is also observed as a day of cleanliness, generally regarding wells and springs (resources of drinking water is the past and also in the present times in most of the villages of Nepal) drainage, private courtyards and other places of public interest.
