Bell

Bell or the Ghanta in local language is the common term used for all types of bells. However,  a special type of bell which is pointed on one side and wide open on the other side and a rod hanging inside in the middle is the popular traditional bell used in the religious shrines. In Buddhist pantheon, the bell represents the female aspect which stands for Prajna or wisdom or transcendental knowledge. It is held in the left hand while the Bajra is held in the right during religious rites. Both of those items are used in combination during worshipping and practicing religious ceremonies. Bajra is also known as Dorje and represents the male aspect which represents upaya or the method of the thought process. Therefore, the combination of the Bell and Dorje are inseparable ritual objects for all activities leading to enlightenment.
The big bells are placed in the central locations of the towns and used for ringing for public attention on matters of public interest.
