KARNALI ZONE

Area: 5205 square miles. Population This largest of the 14 zones of Nepal is thinly populated. It is bounded on the north by Tibet, on the south by Bheri and Rapti zones, on the east by Dhaulagiri zone and on the west by Seti zone. Range of Hiamlayas, highlands and basins are the main features of the topography of this zone. Famous Rara lake at an altitude of nearly 10,000 ft.and important rivers like Karnali, Mugu, Humla lie in it. Sheep, goats and yaks are raised here apart from growing maize, millet, faffer, wheat, potato, etc..at various places. Minerals found in this zone are gold, beryl, mica, copper and sulfur which are yet to be exploited. Transport is a great difficulty in the zone. Humla, Mugu, Jumla and Tibrikot are the districts of this zone.
