Strike brings Saptari to grinding halt

Saptari, July 21: Normal life of the people in Saptari district has been adversely affected due to the strike called by various dissenting political parties today in the district.

The strike was enforced by the cadres of various Madhesh-centric parties in protest of what they called police suppression and manhandling in the agitation staged by them yesterday, the first day of the public feedback collection day.

The cadres have brought the vehicular traffic to a grinding halt within the district. In addition, they have also been gathering in various places in the district and chanting slogans against the police's intervention over their protest and the preliminary draft.

Due to the strike, educational institutes, markets, shops and factories among others have remained closed.

Similarly, various Madhesi leaders and cadres of the Madhes-centric parties disrupted the vehicular traffic by shutting down the highway at various places as Bhardaha, Rupani and Bishanpurchowk in Kalyanpur in the district, according to Shailendra Prasad Shah, Central Member of the Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum-Nepal.

Hundreds of buses travelling to and from other destinations via the district have been stranded.

Although the strike has affected the regular life of the people here, no unfavorable incidents have taken place in the district, according to the District Police Office, Saptari.

To avoid the untoward activities during the strike, police have deployed security personnel at various places across the district, it was told. RSS
