Kathmandu, July 2: Media persons and different institutions related to media sector have called for ensuring the provision of full press freedom in the preamble of the new constitution.
Though the provision of full press freedom was mentioned in the preamble of Interim Constitution-2063 BS, the Preliminary Draft of the New Constitution-2072 BS, only mentioned press freedom in the preamble. Media experts have objected to the new provision, adding it had narrowed down the press sector.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) chair Dr Mahendra Bista commented that the new provision of press freedom instead of full press freedom has delimitated the press sector.
He informed that they were planning to submit the memorandum to CA chair Subash Nembang to include full press freedom in the constitution.
Talking to RSS, chair Bista said that they were asking for justifiable answer as to why the provision of full press freedom was not mentioned in the preamble of the new constitution.
Likewise, Press Council Nepal chair Borna Bahadur Karki, talking to RSS, said that some provisions related to the press sector should be corrected but not mentioning the word 'full' press freedom does not mean there was no press freedom.
Media persons and experts of the areas now are stressing on full press freedom in the new constitution soon after the Constitution Drafting Committee tabled its first draft in the CA. RSS
