Fourteen bridges in one year

Ilam, July 24: Fourteen bridges have been constructed in a year in Ilam. Those include suspension and truss bridges. 

The bridges were completed in the Fiscal Year 2014/15 with the support of the government, DDC, local residents, VDCs and the suspension bridge programme, according to the Rural Bridge Unit at the DDC. 

Of the total budget of Rs. 16 million received for construction of suspension bridges in the district, some arrived only at the end of the fiscal and had to be returned as work could not be completed, said Sub-engineer Kamal Regmi. 

New agreements will be reached for the construction of 10 bridges in the new fiscal year while the five under-construction bridges will also be completed. This takes the total number of suspension bridges to 134 in the district. RSS
